Heart of Maryland Bowhunters is a member-run organization committed to promoting the sport of archery through education, training and practical experience. We offer a place for everyone to learn, practice, and develop archery skills. All are welcome regardless of whether or not you are a hunter or a target archer. The club is a nonprofit organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)( (3).

Our Organization

The Heart of Maryland Bowhunters (HMB) was established in 1994 as a place for a small group of bowhunters to get together to practice their archery skills. Over the past 30 years we have grown into one of the very best 3D archery courses in Maryland.

The club is situated on 40 acres of the Patapsco State Park with three dedicated members-only practice ranges and a 3/4 mile loop course with 30 3D targets. The three practice ranges consist of a range with nine target butts placed at distances between 10 to 65 yards on a flat range, an elevated shooting platform (normally with at least six 3D targets), and a walk-through 3D range with 20 targets ranging in distances from 15 to 60 yards. The three practice ranges are available to all members at any time of the year, while the 30-target 3D course is reserved for our special Sunday shoots.

Events

During the spring and summer months the club sponsors monthly 30-target 3D shoots normally on the first Sunday of the month. Most of the targets are Rinehart targets and all are in excellent condition. This 30-target 3D course, which is separate from the three members-only practice ranges, is a 3/4 mile long loop with varying terrain and many uphill and downhill shots as well as shots from four elevated platforms. All members get their Sunday shoots for free, non-members pay $15.

CLUB NEWS

Our 3D shoots are over for this year. They were a great success! The feedback we received was very positive. People liked the fact that we don’t repeatedly shoot the same targets from the same stations shoot after shoot. They like that we mix up targets from shoot to shoot. They liked that our targets are in good shape with distinct scoring rings and are set in challenging scenarios. We routinely have shooters who drive from Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Eastern Shore just for or shoots. We are already planning next year’s schedule along with some changes to the range to make it more interesting. More on the changes in late winter. Check the calendar around January for our 2025 shoot schedule.

As always, we thank the HMB members who helped make this entire 3D season a huge success. We have a great team of volunteers who are very dedicated and willing to put their sweat equity into making our range and events the best in the state. They have exceeded all expectations. Great work everyone! Thank you!

For the members who like to shoot 3D all year, our 20-target walk through 3D range is always open from dawn to dusk. Those targets are also in good shape with five new ones added in late August. The targets on that range are identified by red tags. The flat practice range with target butts and the 3D tower range adjacent to it are also open all year to members from dawn to dusk.
